Less winter, more spring.

​It was a MUCH needed Top Knot weekend. Temperatures getting up near 50. Snow melting away. Birds out chirping and foraging for bugs and seeds. And peace…..SOOO much peace. 

Spring is about renewal and the hint of what’s coming. Warmer weather, growth, meeting new challenges. 

Already scheduled this year to go to New York, Philadelphia, Denver, and Washington DC. Expanding the menu of offerings through my consulting company, Focused Consulting. Doing a LOT of leadership and mental wellness trainings this year. Super stoked for that. 

What’s on tap for Top Knot this year? Extending the roof a foot on the south side to best accommodate the rain catchment system. Finishing the front porch. Wiring the cabin. Upgrading the solar panels and taking all the new solar power storage for a full test drive. Shifting the stove to the north side of the cabin and getting new furniture for the “living room”. Finishing the plumbing, including the shower. Building stone steps into the back door. 

And other stuff. Hot tub and a waterfall are on the list. 

I continue to be the luckiest guy I know. Life is good at Top Knot.

​Currently at 35,000 feet over the Gulf of ‘Merica on my way back from a trip to my condo in Ecuador with my kids. They’re adults and I’m so grateful they still wanna hang out with the old guy. Sure, a beach trip in December is a mighty tempting lure, but they are strong enough and independent enough to tell me no. And they know I’m totally cool with that. This may, in fact, be our last group trip. We’ll see. They’re getting awfully growdy uppy.  So I turn my sights to tomorrow…January 1st…and my planned focus on less is more.  1. Less social media-peace out to TikTok and Facebook and Instagram. More time to work out. More time to write the books I have in my head. First one is started.  1. Less me. 2025 has been a full year of eating! And, surprisingly, I don’t have a teenager’s metabolism anymore. Sorry, Texas Roadhouse rolls! Can’t try to eat a dozen of you anymore. More healthy, but yummy foods. More clothes that fit even if they don’t come with stretchy fibers on the...

La vida en la playa- The beach life

  As I prepare to launch Less is More, I am thankful for risks I have taken and decisions that have left others wondering why. I worked for a school district for 12 years. Each day I went to work with the mindset that I was there to make things better for kids. That was my job. Upper administration believed the kids came to school each day to generate their income. The more and the louder I disagreed, the more they launched character attacks against me. If you don’t drink the koolaid and weren’t a high school buddy of one of the boys’ club, then you were a menace and targeted. What they failed to understand was that they would not break me.  Fate stepped in during COVID and allowed me opportunity. The older I get, the more I am working in quieting my mind so I can hear those knocks at the door.  I left the toxic district and closed out my career in a fabulous place that shared my ideals about how to make things better for kids.
