Less temperature is more to see and enjoy

Image
January in Montana sees the temps drop along with the flow rate of the rivers and streams. This means more moisture is staying up in the mountains.  While I love hearing the water flowing over the rocks and down the mountain, I’m incredibly thankful for the frozen precipitation and the protection it will help bring from fires this summer. Less flow is more protection. The winter is a great time to prepare for summer. I’m down 22 pounds, so far, since New Years. The less me equals more energy and less joint pain. I want to be physically ready for summer and that will require less me. More hiking at the cabin. More projects at the cabin.  Less social media has allowed more focus and learning. Did a leadership presentation last week at the Montana Contractors Association Winter Convention. I felt it was solid before I did it. The feedback confirmed it was good stuff.  Eager for what the next 90 days has to offer.

Less light pollution, more star gazing

A fabulous, crisp, and clear night at Top Knot last night. Was able to really enjoy the stars and see a hint of the Northern Lights.  Less city time is more mountains time. More time to reset the mind. More time to enjoy breathing. Less noise pollution, more sounds of silence and things normally missed. The creek in the distance. Mostly frozen, but still flowing and musical if you pause long enough to listen . The breeze through the trees. Trees rubbing together, dancing with each other. The MORE I embrace LESS, the MORE I realize I have.

Life at Top Knot

Such a gift of a day today! January 17th and not a lot of snow on the ground today. That is my less is more for today. Less snow allowed me to bring up more and do more at the cabin.  Found my solution for a bathtub at the cabin. A 100 gallon stock tank. Fits perfectly in the space. I’ll build it in more over time. It’ll make for a great place to shower or take a bath. I was able to get up on the roof, although it was breezy, and flex seal a couple cracks in the roof from when the wind ripped it off over Christmas. Less places for leaks to happen and more life in the roof. Then I installed a ceiling fan. Now the heating is consistent all around the cabin. Less hot spots and more comfort. Relaxing watching the NFL playoff games. Cooked sweet potatoes and chicken tenderloins in the stove. All so very yummy.  This weekend is very much about less peopling as I will be doing much more next week at the state contractors convention. Recharging my batteries. I’m doing a leadership bre...

Into each life, a little wind must blow.

Got up to the cabin today. Parked down by the big stump thingy and hiked up the last 1/4 mile or so. Pretty sure I could have made it in the truck, but leaning to the side of caution and liked the hike.  Mother Nature was naughty while I was in Ecuador. Blew down several trees and ripped three roofing panels off. Cabin was still dry. I built some redundancy into the roof.  But I had to get up there in 25mph or so winds and put the roofing panels back on. There is still some touch up to do, but it’ll handle what’s next. Still a gorgeous day up on Top Knot.  Happy New Year!!!
